Junior Rugby - U10 and up

Our junior rugby teams train on Tuesday evenings, with some older age groups training on Wednesday evenings. Some teams elect for a second training on Friday nights when clubhouse and bar is open for parents. Games are played in a home and away format on Sunday mornings. The Northern Wildcats, our girls-only JV with KWP Rugby club, enters teams into the Sydney Junior Rugby Union 7s and 10s competitions. Training for the Wildcats is typically on Thursday evenings and games are on Sundays. 

U10 and U12s Rugby

Training is on Tuesday nights with some teams opting for an additional training on Friday nights. Training is at Hassell Park in St Ives. Matches are played on Sunday in a home and away format, typically mid morning.

From U6 to U12 there are modified rules that make rugby safe fun and enjoyable. These are summarised below. 

U10s and U11s  play 12 a side, U12s play 15 a side.  U10s and U11s field with the side-lines brought in 10m for U10s and U11s, U12s play full width. 

 U10s and U11s games are 20 minutes a half in and U12s play 25 minute halves.  Teams play with a Size 4 ball and U12s a Size 5.  Kicking in game is allowed, and U10s and U11s have a 6 man scrum with U12s having a full 8 man scrum. 

U13 to Opens

Training is typically on Tuesday nights with some teams opting for an additional training on Friday nights. Some older age groups may train alongside the Seniors on Wedensday nights. Training is at Hassell Park in St Ives. 

Matches are played on Sunday in a home and away format, typically late morning.

 From U13s and above rules are modified in accordance the Australian Under 19 Law Variations. The Australian U19 Law Variations and Guidelines must be read in conjunction with World Rugby’s U19 Law Variations.  

All teams play with 15 players on a side and game times vary per age group with U13s and U14s, games for U13s and U14s have 25 minute halves, 30 minute halves for U15s and U16s and 35 minute halves for Opens (U17 and U18).  

U14s Tours

Our U14s (sometimes jointly with U15s) tour to either Fiji or New Zealand. 

These tours take place in the Sep/Oct school holidays and are an experience not to be missed. 

In 2024 a joint group of U14s and U15s will be touring to Fiji.
